I swear, it was right there. Until it wasn’t. And so I ran home watchless, using my iPod nano’s stopwatch to keep track of my time (thank you Matt for the suggestion several posts back). Even though it was only a $12 jobbie from CVS, I am kind of bummed if in fact I did lost my watch. It’s raced two marathons with me, a bunch of PR’s, and more hill repeats than I ever care to remember. Plus, I was just starting to build up my tan lines around it. And, if I meet my running goals this year — sub-two-hour-half and a sub-4:30 marathon — I promised myself a Garmin. I’d hate to buy another $12 watch to use for just six months. I suppose, though, that it’s actually a bargain at $2 per month for accurate timekeeping. (3.5 miles; 33:08 minutes today, by the way.)
I went to the gym today and weighed in. 144.5 lbs. Am not surprised I’ve gained as my activity dropped and i had a few intimate moments with Ben & Jerry over the last couple of weeks. However, it still ruffled me enough so that I am now officially taking after my girl and am using the gentle guidance of Weight Watchers Core program to bring me back to a faithful realationship with Fruits & Veggies. Will let you know how long I go before I run to the bodega clutching $5 in search of a jar of peanut butter. (That’s a joke. Please laugh with me.)
Switching to WW Core is the best thing I’ve done concerning weight loss in months. I should have done it ages ago! If all goes well I will hit the big 6-5 lbs lost at weigh in tonight and it’s all thanks to Core.
Having my Garmin fall off my wrist is high on my list of fears. I obsessively check the wrist strap (I went with the Velcro strap) for looseness when I’m out. One time I discovered it had come undone but hadn’t fallen off yet and I completely freaked.
Embrace the veg :-)!
I would hold out for the Garmin as well – but I’m not a big fan of extra “stuff.” Have you thought of getting the Nike+ kit for the nano? It’s a great training tool for me while I’m working up the gumption to actually pony up the dough for a Garmin. It’s a $30 investment that is well worth it, I love the interaction and reporting capabilities of the nike+ site. It’s a great way to track average pace and report on month, week, or per-run basis.
Ok, I’ll quit the sales pitch :-)! Happy running!
You know, I know the Nike+ and I hate it. I cannot get it to calibrate and it always says I am WAY faster or WAY slower than I actually am. Plus, I don’t always want to run with my ipod. Sometimes, I prefer to run without the head noise. But, lots of folks swear by the Nike system. How did you calibrate yours?
Hi there, it’s a sad day when you don’t have your running watch with you. I can get you a free sample Tech4O watch if you’re interested. Check them out at http://www.tech4o.com, and email me if you’d like one.
