Happy Sunday to one and all, Spring road racing season is upon us and three of my friends have either run PRs or won races this weekend. Kudos to Julie of Races Like a Girl for breaking the tape on Long Island (on her birthday! and she’s now an age that is divisble by eleven! I love the number eleven!), and to Matt the host of Dump Runners Club and Sarah of Running into the Sun for each setting PRs in the half-marathon. Oh how I wish I too was out there with my pigtails flying behind me, but as that’s not to be just yet I am getting great pleasure out of hearing all about my friends’ successes… Please give a warm welcome (you’ll know him right away because he looks like Pierce Brosnan) to a dear friend who will be in town this week. Even though he’s a vegetarian (the friend, not Pierce), he’s still cool… The all-time top five search engine terms which bring googlers to my blog, starting with #1: pigtails flying, once a runner, queens half marathon, desiree davile and kara goucher. Some of the funniest terms: women stripped, chocolate horn, and women bending over…. Have I ever told you all how much I love to dance? I’m talking, tipsy on the dance floor in high heels and a twirly dress. Without exaggeration, some of the happiest moments of my life have been on the dance floor. This group in Brooklyn helps folks with Parkinson’s Disease through dance classes, the premise being dance is a sort of physical therapy which improves their strength, mobility and balance. I’m sure that’s the case, but no doubt it also just makes ’em happier… Plans for the Green Mountain Relay are coming along just fine; and oh yeah did I mention I am now the team captain!? This relay has become an unexpected grace. Since the Flora London Marathon will be a pleasure cruise for me (I’m pretty sure I’ll get the green light from my doctor to run it; but to race it? Doubtful), having this relay on the calendar will be my primary endurance event to train for… With the Boston Marathon a mere 16 days away (I’m excited and I’m not even running the damn thing!), there is a surfeit of Kara links out there. This Flotrack video, about the Sunday long run she did in Boston earlier this winter, is one of the best. Our girl KG is also the covergirl on Runner’s World magazine this month… Budding film directors and videographers, enter Nike’s “Believe in the Run” contest. Submit a video about why you believe in the run and you could win running gear and the chance to train with an elite athlete, as Kara says in the promo video, “maybe even me…” Injury update: no longer limping, though I am still sore. Am feeling positive my PT team will let me try running again later this week….
