Pigtails Flying turned two years old yesterday. Which just goes to show: I am such a bad mother that I forgot my [devil] child’s birthday. Nevertheless! I am here today to wish my online running journal “Happy Birthday!” Also, it’s a great excuse to eat a massive cupcake. (I must write this blog post quickly as the sugar crash is sure to ensue shortly.) If you’d told me this time last year that I would spend a large chunk of 2009 writing about not-running, I would have sent you to bed early without dessert. But this year, I know that anything can happen in running as in life; I only hope I am ready to adequately reflect on and write about it for you all.
Toddler PF has accumulated 573 posts since I birthed her, and 2,533 comments (some of which are mine in response to you all; is that stacking the decks?). During PF’s first month on WordPress, it received just under 1,000 hits; this month I may get 4,000. Still rinkydinky when you think about blogs like PostSecret or Pioneer Woman Cooks, but I don’t care. I’m just glad you all let me muse on about running, and indulge me when I’m feeling metaphorical, or cranky, or sad.
I already ate my birthday present, but I still want to celebrate with you all. I’m giving away cupcakes and CDs of my famous alphabetized playlists! I’ll randomly select two winners for each prize from among everyone who posts a comment on my blog before midnight on Sunday, January 31st. Thank you to all of you–commenters and lurkers alike–for continuing to read me daily or sporadically. I’ll have red wine later.

Yay Happy Blogiversary! So fun 🙂 I remember finding your blog last year and enjoying it for a few weeks.. that was right before you got injured 😦 and after a little while I took a break from “injured girls blog” because I was on the upside after my own injury and that was the last thing I wanted to read about. Looking back, I think its safe to say I didn’t appreciate your blog for what it is. When we linked up on twitter I immediately recognized your name and went right back to your blog. It earned its spot back on the Bookmarks Bar and I’m never looking back! I enjoy your writing immensely, your style, your funny quips and your straight forward approach. Keep on rockin, girl! 🙂 and damn that cupcake makes me drool.

OK, I know I won a running log (which I use daily), but cupcakes would be mighty fine, too. Huge fan. In fact, hubs and I are taking day-trip to Houston this weekend to a cupcake place called Sugarbabies — this month they’re featuring a cupcake made with St. Arnold Stout, a local micro-brewed beer. And topped with chocolate gonache (sp?). I’m pretty stoked. 😀
