I hereby declare it. Not only because I want it to be true, but because I believe we’re smarter than other athletes. Whoh, I just revealed my bias — who isn’t biased? — but come on: if you’re reading this chances are high you’re a runner, so just take the compliment and let’s move on.

All good declarations are quickly followed by a call to action. So: hear ye, hear ye all runners, triathletes, and heck even you crunchy people who do yoga. Join the Run Your City Book Club! Our friend Ryan, over at RunYourCity.com (that cool website that groups together running blogs and routes by city), has decided it’s time we use our rest time to start cracking open a good one, and then discuss it together on his message boards.

Since I already use my rest time (and perhaps some of the time I should be cross-training) to read, this book club is a no-brainer for me. The first book selected is Ultramarathon Man by Dean Karnazes. Who doesn’t love that guy?

The Run Your City Book Club is very easy to join and participate in. All you’ve got to do is read the current book club selection (may I suggest borrowing from your local library or else buying from your local independent bookseller?), then go to the appropriate RunYourCity.com message board¬†to join in the discussion.

Personally, I think Ryan picked a good one to start the book club with, because no less than four different people have recommended Ultramarathon Man to me over the past two years.
