This is the first in my “Get to Know” series, in which I will interview important people in my life about running (and me).
Husband is a 38-year old Taurus living in Sunnyside, NY, who makes his living as a high school social studies teacher in Yonkers, NY. He is the President of the Sunnyside United Dog Society and main caretaker of Matilda the Dog. Hobbies include audio recording live jam band concerts, and creating cairn sculptures by balancing rocks in artful formations. He posts comments as “rD.”
Pigtails Flying: Describe your relationship to Pigtails.
Husband: She is “Wife.”
PF: Do you consider yourself a runner?
H: Yeah, I think I’m a runner. I have little eras of running.
PF: What era are you in now?
H: An era of recession. (Laughs.)
PF: How does it feel to be a marathon widower?
H: I miss my wife because she’s gone all the time running. I have a lot more to do because someone needs to keep the house in order. But I have a lot more time to myself, which is good. (Laughs again.)
PF: What is the best part of having a wife who runs?
H: It’s nice to see someone passionate about something. It’s fun to watch someone be so dedicated to a tough physical achievement. It’s inspiring.
PF: What’s the worst part?
H: She’s always tired and goes to be early. I’m more of a night owl.
PF: If you’re not a runner, then how do you fill your free time?
H: Doing all the things my wife doesn’t have time to do because she’s running.
There you have it, folks. Somehow, I don’t feel guilty for letting him do the vacuuming and recycling every week.–PF
