That’s right. Kara will be here this week to defend her title for the Women’s Mile at the Millrose Games on Friday Night. You know I’m going to be there, cheering at Madison Square Garden.
Also making an appearance: the humble Bernard Lagat for the Wannamaker Mile, revisiting his duel from last Fall’s Fifth Avenue Mile with Olympian Nick Willis of New Zealand, and trying for his seventh win in the event. (An aside: I like Nick Willis’s attitude an awful lot, but the third-place finisher of the Fifth Avenue Mile, Nate Brannen, I think is kind of cute.)
Also, a BIG FAT THANK YOU to LW, who forwarded me an announcement from Facebook that Kara and Bernard are going to be present at a Q&A after a group run out of New York Running Company’s Upper East Side location on Thursday evening (January 29th). You know I’m going to be there, trying not to make a total dork of myself by blurting out a marriage proposal to either/both of them.
Here are the details:
Learn from the best after getting in your own 3- or 5-mile training run with RUN NYC. Training run will depart NY Running Co.’s Upper East Side location (1059 Third Avenue between 62nd & 63rd Streets) promptly at 6:30pm; athlete Q&A will follow. RSVP now to news@runnyc.org.
Okay, I’m matching your Kara and Nick and Nate with just one…Jennifer Chiaverini is giving a lecture in Riverhead on April 3rd and I just got my ticket. I’m a very happy quilter, too. Just want to share the joy. Love,
Isn’t this exciting? I’ve been annoying all my non-runner friends lately by not shutting up about how excited I am to see Kara.
Wow, that is so cool you get to see Kara up close and personal! BTW, did you see this?… according to Runner’s World racing news, Kara is planning to follow in Paula’s footsteps and do the mom thing after Boston. So spectating at Boston (and Millrose games) takes on a whole new level of importance since these may be the last opportunities to see her compete for at least a year and a half or so. Geez, can’t Adam carry the child instead? I was so looking forward to continue watching her stellar rise in the marathon world! Guess we’ll have to be patient….
I know, I’ve been hearing about her plans to have kids. Cynical me keeps expecting her marriage to blow-up now that the woman is more successful than the man, forget about them having kids. But clearly they are both just good, normal people! Encouraging. All I know is that Kara isgoing to be the next Deena and the next Paula so she better be super-smart about her post-partum come back!
Adam was wearing a shirt that said “Mr. Kara Goucher” at the finish of the NYC marathon. I thought that spoke volumes about the probable health of their relationship.
Yes, I saw that too. Good for him; and lucky her. Maybe it’s due in part to the special bond couples get when they sleep next to each other every night in an altitude tent.

Argh! I didn’t know about this! Thanks mucho for the heads up…….holy moly I heart Kara. If there wasn’t two inches of snow and ice outside the door, I’d go do somersaults..
We are blessed with 3 posts in one day. This has done wonders to satiate my pigtails fix, especially after you’ve been slacking all weekend.
Adam’s shirt also speaks volumes about his ability to get laid.
